This past weekend we went on one of my favorite Old Forge area hikes. Having grown up in the area, I have made many memories at Lock and Dam. I have mentioned this enjoyable two mile hike to a few clients, most were not aware of it, so I thought I would share. This little journey starts at the Green Bridge in Thendara (see map below). The trail follows the Moose River for a while then takes a slight incline. This is a fairly easy hike and the trail is well maintained. It’s a terrific route to take on snowshoes and cross country skis. When one arrives at Lock and Dam they are greeted by a nice open area with great views of the Moose River, the dam and the occasional train from the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. Lock and Dam is often visited by canoe and kayak as well as. It is an easy paddle from Tickner’s Canoes, Mountainman and the Green Bridge.
Here are a few photos from the hike.
